Preparing the Mortar
Viridian Stone supply pre-mixed mortar in 25kg bags mid grey colour which complements the majority of stones in our range. However if desired the mortar can be coloured by adding iron oxide pigments available from hardware stores.
Only mix mortar as required.
Following the mixing instructions on the bag, first put the water in the mixing container and add the mortar powder to the water and mix well. (A small electric or petrol mixer is recommended to prevent waste)
A good rule of thumb to check the consistency is that the mortar should cling to a vertically held trowel, releasing with a gentle shake.
In hot and dry conditions you may need to carefully add a little more water to achieve the correct consistency.
In hot and dry conditions it is recommended to wet the back of the stone before applying mortar.
